The newly appointed Ombudsperson, Punjab, Mrs. Rukhsana Gillani has assumed the charge on 19th April 2018. She is an eminent proponent of socio-economic empowerment of the women to enhance their role in national development of Pakistan. She believes that female participation in economic activities will harbinger a social evolution and create an environment in which the rights of women will be better secured. For achieving this objective, a conducive and safe workplace has to be created where women can utilize their potential for personal and national growth with peace of mind and confidence.Mrs. Rukhsana Gillani belongs to Audit and Accounts Group of Pakistan and has a career spanning over three decades in public service. She remained posted at various executive posts and has made valuable contributions towards improving transparency in utilization of public sector resources. She plans to strengthen the role of this office in making institutional arrangements for foolproof safety of respect and dignity of women employees.
Farkhanda Wasim Afzal
On appointment by Government of the Punjab, Ms. Farkhanda Wasim Afzal assumed charge as the Ombudsperson Punjab on 16th April 2015. She is an officer of Pakistan Administrative Service from the 1978 batch, and has 36 years’ experience of working at various administrative positions in the federal and provincial governments, including, inter alia, that of Additional Secretary, Health and P&D Departments, Secretary Cooperatives and Secretary (Services) S&GAD, Govt. of the Punjab. She retired from the post of Director General, Civil Services Academy, Lahore, in March 2014.
Ms. Farkhanda Wasim Afzal holds the degrees of Masters in Economics (Punjab University), MS Management (ADL, MEI, USA) and Masters in Economics ( McGill University, Canada).
Prof. Dr. Mira Phailbus
Prof. Dr. Mira Phailbus, Principal (Retd.) Kinnaird College, Lahore, was appointed as the first Ombudsperson, Punjab under “The Protection Against Harassment of Women at the Workplace Act 2010”.
She held the said position w.e.f. 2nd March 2013 till March 01, 2015. Prof. Dr.Mira Phailbus(SI), one of the most eminent educationist of Pakistan, is recognized internationally for her immense contribution to the education sector in Pakistan. For over forty years, she has served first as faculty member and then as a principal of Kinnaird College for Women, Lahore. She has also served as the Minister for Education and Minority Affairs, Punjab government. After her retirement, Prof. Dr. Mira Phailbus, was appointed as the first Ombudsperson, Punjab under “The Protection against Harassment of Women at the Workplace Act 2010” on March, 2013. She held the position of Ombudsperson, Punjab, for two years.
