Functions of Ombudsperson Office

The Ombudsperson office Punjab deals with two acts "The Protection Against Harassment of Women at the Workplace Act, 2010" as amended in 2012 and "The Punjab Enforcement of Women's Property Rights Act, 2021". It is expedient to provide for protection of rights of ownership and possession of properties owned by women ensuring that such rights are not violated by means of harassment, coercion, force or fraud.

Office of the Ombudsperson has been established to safeguard rights of women to work so that they may support their families financially, and contribute as better citizens of  developing nation. This office has proved property rights to women and as milestone in combating and discouraging sexual harassment of women at workplace and giving them conducive environment. 

Responsibilities

  • Deals with complaints of victims of harassment at work place
  • Its also deals property related matters of women
  • Conducts proceedings/ hearing of such cases as per law
  • This office protect women rights against harassment and property related issues
  • This office also running campaigns in different universities, institutions, private and public sectors for the awareness of Women's Property Rights and Harassment of Women at the Workplace 
  • Decides the cases 
  • Forward directions for the coordination and implementations to Assistant Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner and Secretaries
  • Imposes penalties as provided in the Act in cases where harassment is established
  • Hears appeals against decisions of Inquiry Committees under the Act
